Dating Terms: Ross: “Hey, How’d it go?”
Phoebe: “Oh, not so good, he walked me to the subway and said ‘we should do this again!’”
Everyone: “oooooh”
Rachel: “What! he said we should do this again that’s good right?”
Monica: “No! Loosely translated ‘we should do this again’ means ‘you will never see me naked!’”
Rachel: “Since when!”
Joey: ” Since always! It’s like dating language. Like “It’s not you” means “IT IS YOU!”
Chandler: “Or ‘you’re such a nice guy’ means ‘I’m gonna be dating leather-wearing alcoholics and complaining about them to you!’”
Phoebe: “Or ‘I think we should see other people’ means ‘Ha Ha, I already am!’”

Even though F.R.I.E.N.D.S aired decades ago, these dating terms still remain in the place. However, with the consistent dating evolution, there are several dating terms being added to the dictionary.

Also known as the dating language, what are some of the most common phrases used in modern dating and what they actually mean? Let us find through this blog today!

Modern Dating Terms and What They Actually Mean

When I was new to the dating world, I made a lot of mistakes (I still do!). Especially because I was not aware of the “modern dating language” and hence, if someone told me they are going to call me back later, I actually waited! Ughhh!

So, if you are also new to dating or are old school (like me!), I am here to introduce you to modern dating terms. I am not saying that you SHOULD use the same language when dating, but having a knowledge of these dating terms will surely help you out (trust me!).

So, let us look at some of such what they say versus what they really mean:

What They Say: “I don’t believe you are single”

What They Mean: Are you having other options at the side? Are you seeing other men? If yes, tell me now as I am feeling insecure.

What They Say: “I am not into relationship & commitments.”

What They Mean: I am not really into you and I don’t want to hurt your feelings.

What They Say: “I have been hurt in the past so I cannot trust anyone easily. Hence, I need some time.”

What They Mean: I will never commit to you and I am only interested to get you in bed, without getting blamed for it!

What They Say: “You can get anybody to like you.”

What They Mean: I don’t find you attractive and you should go and try on someone else.

What They Say: “Can we talk about this later?”

What They Mean: I am not talking about this to you ever. Just give me a break and let’s not discuss this.

What They Say: “You deserve better.”

What They Mean: I am not capable of giving you the things which you want as I am not ready for it. You should move on.

What They Mean: I already have someone important there who might know about me talking to other people.

What They Say: “I still want you to be my friend” (Even after breaking it off with you)

What They Mean: I want you to keep chasing me and be available whenever I need you. This way, I can also brag about this to other girls/ guys and that’ll boost my ego.
